Theatre School Coaches

Amber Hendrix, an acting coaching, educator, social worker, and ESL teacher, has been working with children at the Utah Children’s Theatre for three years. She is also an ESL teacher who has worked in a virtual classroom, one-on-one with Chinese children, for two years. Amber has a background in Educational Counseling and Mental Health Counseling. She holds two Masters Degrees from the University of Phoenix, a TESOL Certification with VIPKID, and a Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Political Science, in Secondary Education and Dance Education from Brigham Young University. She traveled nationally and internationally performing with the BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble, where she was on the Performing Arts Company. She is a literacy expert and reads aloud books on Youtube, because she believes that all children should have access to books. Finally, Amber’s philosophy is that every child is unique, has an individual learning style, with interests that intrinsically motivate him or her to learn about the world.

Breezi Hancock moved here two years ago from Kansas where she studied Theatre Education and Communication at Pittsburg State University. She has been both on and off the stage and her favorite part about theatre is seeing a group of people come together to reach a common goal. She is looking forward to teaching Improv, acting, and production for UCT.

McKay Elwood is excited to be joining the UCT as a Musical Theatre Coach. He grew up in small-town Delano, Minnesota with his parents and 4 siblings. Theatre has always been a part of his life. Performing in musicals, improv groups, one acts, plays, and choirs since a young age, he is no stranger to the stage. In 2010, McKay moved to Utah to attend school at Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, and a minor in Contemporary Dance. He's performed locally with BYU, Hale Center Theatre, Hale Center Theater Orem, Sundance, and Utah Children's Theatre! McKay currently teaches at a Charter School in North Salt Lake, as well as teaching private voice lessons from his own studio. He lives in Salt Lake City with his husband Luke, where they actively critique indie films, dabble in videography, and find any free weekend to spend some time with family up at Bear Lake.

Meighan Smith loves being a part of The Utah Children’s Theatre School. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, she attended Brigham Young University, studying Theatre Education. Since graduation she has worked as a theatre specialist , teaching dramatic arts to students of all ages all across the valley. In addition to being a theatre instructor at the theatre school, Meighan enjoys directing and acting in Utah Children’s Theatre Mainstage productions. She also serves as UCT’s resident Hair and Makeup Designer. When not at the theatre, you will probably find her reading, hiking the many local canyon trails with her scruffy dog Deoji, or hanging out with her husband Chris and their two daughters Alina and Makayla.

Nellie Kelly is thrilled to be returning to UCT for her third year of teaching after school classes. She moved from Maine three years ago where she graduated from the University of Maine with degrees in theatre and history. Nellie has been performing on stage since she was 6 years old and teaching children in theater for the past eight years. She is the production manager and stage manager for UCT's main stage shows and is excited to teach advanced acting, musical theatre and our homeschool classes this year.
